Love Where You Live

“Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Love God, love your neighbor. No other teaching is greater than these for those who believe in God. But this idea sometimes just becomes, 'I should love everybody!' and so we commit to being nice, loving people. But Jesus was really asking us to intentionally know and love our neighbor. Meet the person next door. Get to know them. Eat with them. Enjoy life with them. Love your neighbor as yourself.

It turns out that this is the heart of sharing the Gospel with someone - knowing them, loving them, being there for them, and earning a place in their life. Sharing the Gospel without sharing life doesn't have great results. But a relationship investment demonstrates love, and the Gospel demonstrates love, too! And the consistency between life and truth makes a difference!

The Austin area has been blessed by God with an unprecedented spirit of cooperation and unity! In the fall of 2013, over 350 churches partnered together for the Explore God initiative, inviting people into small groups to ask several common questions about God and faith. This city-wide movement led to greater conversations in the Austin area churches looking to do more for the Kingdom together. After fervent prayer and discussion, the Biblical truth of loving our neighbor, just as Jesus taught, emerged.

Round Rock churches have initiated Love The Rock, where we spend a Saturday in the Fall serving our neighbors. Church leaders have worked with city leaders and business partners to make Love the Rock a great expression of loving our neighbors!

The Gospel is the good news that God has delivered us and forgiven us by His own hand, through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus! That is the good news! The bad news is that every life, every person, and every relationship is strained and stained by sin. Even great neighbors will have moments of conflict...so how can we deal with it when neighboring goes wrong?
